How We Built an Eight-Year Partnership with a Packaging Wholesaler

A strong supplier does more than complete orders on time. It should understand the customer’s business model, inventory cycle and market needs—and continuously help the customer identify new growth opportunities.

Our Colombian customer is a comprehensive packaging wholesaler supplying local food, cosmetics, candle and home-fragrance brands. We have now worked together for eight years.During this time, the relationship has grown from basic product sourcing into a long-term partnership covering new-product recommendations, purchasing plans, inventory management, order tracking and packaging improvements.

Why Has the Customer Continued Working with Us for Eight Years?

We once asked the customer why they continued to work with us when they had several other suppliers.

The customer replied:

“Your flexible MOQs, fast delivery and transparent order management are exactly what we need.”

As a comprehensive packaging wholesaler, the customer does not depend on one supplier. Instead, they purchase different products from different suppliers according to each supplier’s strengths.

YPC Packaging is primarily responsible for supplying:

  • Glass food packaging
  • Cosmetic glass bottles and jars
  • Candle vessels
  • Diffuser bottles
  • Closures and related accessories

These are among our core product categories. Because most standard products are either in stock or supported by stable production arrangements, we can offer more flexible MOQs and faster delivery.

Flexible MOQs and Fast Delivery

Packaging wholesalers need to carry multiple product categories. If every item requires a high MOQ, the wholesaler must commit more capital, use more warehouse space and accept greater inventory risk.

For this customer, we provide flexible purchasing options based on product availability and production conditions. Some standard stock products can be ordered from one pallet, usually around 3,000 to 5,000 units per SKU.

For regular orders, we can prepare one to two 40HQ containers within approximately 25 to 30 days, helping the customer replenish inventory more quickly.

This flexibility allows the customer to test new products with a lower inventory commitment and increase the order quantity after the product has proven successful in the local market.

Making Every Order More Transparent

For international buyers, placing an order without being able to see its progress can create considerable uncertainty.

Throughout each order, we provide updates according to key project stages, including:

  • Production schedule
  • Raw material and component preparation
  • Production photos or videos
  • Decoration progress
  • Quality inspection results
  • Carton and pallet photos
  • Container loading and shipment information

The customer does not need to repeatedly request updates. They can clearly understand the current status of the order and what will happen next.

This transparent order-management process reduces communication errors and helps the customer plan sales and inventory more accurately.

Planning New Products with the Customer

Packaging wholesalers need to keep expanding their product range to attract new customers and increase market share.

However, they often face a practical challenge: they know they need new products, but they may not know which categories to add or which designs are worth the inventory risk.

Every June and November, we discuss the customer’s plans for the following six months. We review:

  • Which products are showing stronger sales
  • Which categories need to be expanded
  • What new inquiries the customer is receiving
  • Which new demands are emerging in the local market
  • Which current products need additional capacities or upgrades
  • Which new products are suitable for market testing

Based on this information, we select popular products with reliable supply and recommend the options most suitable for the customer’s market.

For initial market tests, we often recommend starting with one pallet—approximately 3,000 to 5,000 units—so the customer can reduce the risk of slow-moving inventory. To date, we have successfully introduced 15 new products to this customer. These products have expanded its food, cosmetics, candle and home-fragrance packaging ranges, and the customer has been very satisfied with the results.

Using Purchasing Cycles to Prevent Stock Shortages

Reliable supply depends not only on production speed, but also on advance purchasing plans.

By reviewing the customer’s order history, we have developed a clearer understanding of each product’s purchasing cycle, including:

  • Quantity per order
  • Average sales cycle
  • Normal replenishment schedule
  • Required production time
  • Ocean freight and customs-clearance time
  • Possible seasonal shipping delays

When a product approaches its expected replenishment date, we proactively remind the customer to review inventory and sales. If replenishment is required, we can begin planning the next order early.

This reduces the risk of waiting until stock is nearly depleted before placing an order, when there may no longer be enough time for production and transportation.

For packaging wholesalers, stock availability is essential. If a standard product is unavailable, downstream customers may quickly move to another supplier. We therefore do more than manufacture packaging—we also help the customer plan purchasing and inventory in advance.

Continuously Improving Export Packaging

As the partnership has developed, we have continued to improve the customer’s export packaging.

Beginning this year, we upgraded the pallet-packing process:

  1. Cartons are arranged and secured.
  2. The complete load is covered with heat-shrink film.
  3. The goods are fixed firmly to the pallet.
  4. Corners and the overall pallet structure are reinforced.
  5. A final inspection is completed before shipment.

This upgraded method helps protect cartons from moisture, dust and movement during transportation and storage. It also keeps the pallets cleaner and more organized, making them easier for the customer’s warehouse team to handle.
